  Description: The Editor is responsible for the day-to-day management of book projects acquired by the Trade 1 acquisitions team from copyedited manuscript to bound book. Essential duties include: 1. Scheduling and Project Management: Coordinate and supervise the copyediting and proofreading of manuscripts on an approved schedule. Find and manage freelance staff. 2. Relationship Development: Serve Trade 1 authors well and foster healthy, collaborative relationships with them and their agents. Work with the authors to secure approval on editing, jacket/cover copy, text design, page proofs, permissions, and endorsements. 3. Marketing/Publicity: Create catalog copy, edit catalog pages, and, when applicable, incorporate the editorial process into marketing initiatives. 4. Budgeting: Set/meet budgets for freelance editing and proofreading and manage timely payment. 5. Permissions and Approvals: Work with authors and agents to secure permissions, releases, and endorsements and to obtain approval for text design, copyediting, cover design, and cover copy. 6. Packaging: Evaluate/revise jacket/cover copy at each stage of development.  
  Skills: Successful candidates will have advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook. And, as a minimum, familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style is required. Candidates proficient with Chicago Manual of Style, Christian Writer’s Manual of Style and Adobe Standard are highly preferred.  
  Experience: 2 – 3 years in publishing, preferably in product development and project management is required. Five or more years preferred. 
  Education: A BA Degree in English or Journalism is required.
